This project was for the conversion of a derelict workshop and garage unit in the Cheshire village of Alderley Edge to form the principal headquarters of property development company Metier.

The concept driving the scheme was to express the contrast between new and old elements and to create a light and spacious environment. The principal intervention within the existing building was the removal of part of the first floor to create a double height space for the reception and entrance area, which acts as a focus around which the rest of the accommodation is arranged.

At ground floor level the former garage doors were removed and replaced with a new full height glazed screen that also formed the envelope to the new extension.

The use of steel, slate and glass as a palette of materials, employed in a consistent manner, provided a coherent identity and provided inspiration for the subsequent re-branding of the company.
