This project created a low-cost but high quality development of 14 selfcontained office units that respond to the quality and character of the surrounding Conservation Area.

The design response is a contemporary re-working of the historic typology of buildings in the area and the site’s pattern of small and sub-divided units, typically over three storeys with ground floors that contribute to the busy street scene.

The site has differing contexts as to the north is Swan Street with larger buildings whilst to the south is the northern quarter, with smaller developments and a more dense urban grain and this context resulted in a different approach to each side.

The Swan Street elevation is typified by a strong building line with individual windows set in deep reveals whilst the elevation facing Foundry Lane is glazed, offering views out to the south facing and landscaped courtyard.

Since completion the scheme has won awards at local and national level including a prestigious RIBA Award.
