This project is for a proposed new residential development on a site at the periphery of the city centre. The site is a full urban block that has streets on three sides and a proposed landscaped park and pedestrian piazza in front of the primary elevation.

This setting generates the design response, which is to provide a ‘pavilion in the park’ with an appropriately grand scale of expression. The building features coherent base, middle and top portions with a strong vertical emphasis provided by the regular structural bays and the setting back of the facade within these bays to provide balconies overlooking the park.

The ground floor accommodates parking to the rear with retail units fronting the pedestrian piazza alongside a grand, double height entrance to the main apartment building. The upper floors, containing 25 generously sized apartments, are arranged around a landscaped central atrium space, which allows natural light into the heart of the plan and contains the communal circulation.
